Brass Symposium

The Great American Brass Band Festival 2013
BRASS SYMPOSIUM
FRIDAY June 7, 2013
9:00 AM – 4:30 PM
Weisiger Theater, Centre College
Danville, Kentucky

Celebrating the Trombone
On Friday, June 7th, the Great American Brass Band Festival will host its annual Brass Symposium, this year celebrating the trombone, aligning with festival’s 2013 theme, Slides Rule. The informative and entertaining event will run from 9:00 am to 4:30 pm in Weisiger Theatre on the campus of Centre College, Danville, KY. The registration fee is $75.00 per person, which covers all concerts, conference materials and programs, lunch, and coffee breaks.

The Brass Symposium represents a continuation and transformation of the GABBF’s Band History Conference. Experts in trombone, brass, and brass band performance, literature, and history will present a wide range of short concerts laced with informative discussion and reflection. Soloists include some of the world’s finest trombonists: Wycliffe Gordon, Brett Baker, Scott Hartmann, and Martin McCain. The award-winning university level Black Dyke Band Youth Trombone Quartet from England and Commonwealth Trombones, made up of trombone professors from Kentucky’s major music programs will offer an amazing variety of trombone ensemble music. A GABBF favorite, Millennium Brass Quintet, returns to the Festival for the centerpiece luncheon concert, backing up its’ own Scott Hartmann. Two outstanding British-style brass bands round out the line up: The Georgia Brass Band, and the Lexington Brass Band.

The GABBF is cooperating with local and state education offices so that delegates may apply for continuing education credit for having been fully involved in the Brass Symposium, and by extension, the entire GABBF. Watch for further details at gabbf.org
