For over 30 years Boston Brass has set out to establish a one-of-a-kind musical experience. From exciting classical arrangements to burning jazz standards and the best of original brass repertoire, Boston Brass treats audiences to a unique brand of entertainment that captivates all ages. The ensemble’s lively repartee, touched with humor and personality, bridges the ocean of classical formality to delight audiences with great music and boisterous fun. The philosophy of Boston Brass is to provide audiences with a wide selection of musical styles in unique arrangements while maintaining a friendly and fun atmosphere. The quintet plays to audiences at concert halls, educational institutions, and music festivals, and regularly collaborates with orchestras, concert and marching bands, organists, jazz bands, and a variety of other ensembles.
The Boston Brass have been featured as educators and performers at the Midwest Band and Orchestra Clinic, World Association for Symphonic Bands and Ensembles, Music Educators National Conference events, American Bandmaster Association Conference, The American Band College, Western International Band Clinic, and at the Texas Bandmasters Association Convention. They have performed in all 50 US states and 30 countries and have conducted masterclasses around the world including sessions and residencies at the Eastman School of Music, The Juilliard School, Shepherd School of Music at Rice University, Peabody Conservatory of Music, University of North Texas, Royal Academy of Music in London, Yong Siew Toh Conservatory at the National University of Singapore, and Mahidol University in Bangkok.
Their newest recording Simple Gifts features new and exciting classical and jazz arrangements. Latin Nights, features a collection of some of the greatest classical and jazz works by Latin composers and performers and features the legendary drummer Steve Gadd, the beautiful voice of Talita Real, plus percussion and guitar. Other albums include Ya Gotta Try, featuring music from Horace Silver, Chick Corea and Dizzy Gillespie, produced by legendary jazz recording genius Rudy van Gelder and Within Earshot, featuring classical works by Shostakovich, Ginastera, Dvorak, Liszt and others. Boston Brass has two holiday recordings, Christmas Bells are Swingin’, and The Stan Kenton Christmas Carols, featuring the Boston Brass All-Stars Big Band playing the truly phenomenal charts made popular by the Stan Kenton Orchestra. Boston Brass tours a vibrant holiday show each year featuring many of the charts from these two albums, combined with a variety of quintet and combo selections which has established the show as a perennial audience favorite.
2011 marked the 25th Anniversary of Boston Brass and was celebrated with the 25 Fanfares Project, wherein 25 fanfares were premiered by composers from all over the country. Boston Brass also premiered a new major commission by noted wind ensemble composer Brian Balmages and new arrangements by former member and tuba player Sam Pilafian. Additionally, Boston Brass was very excited to have the opportunity to collaborate in the 2010/2011 season with the fabulous Imani Winds in a program entitled “Sketches of Spain,” featuring the music of Miles Davis and Gil Evans. In the 2012/2013 season the quintet began touring their “Notes from the Balcony” program with the Enso String Quartet featuring a program of music based on Romeo and Juliet.
Boston Brass is a Yamaha Performing Group and performs exclusively on Yamaha instruments. With shared goals of musical excellence and educational outreach, Boston Brass and Yamaha endeavor to present concerts and masterclasses around the world, including a 2018 tour of major music conservatories in China.
MIKE WADE AND THE NASTY NATI BRASS BAND

Mike Wade & The Nasty NATI brass band is an American, Cincinnati, OH, based brass band. The ensemble was established in 2015, by Mike Wade and some alumni band members of the Central State University Marauder Marching Band. The Nasty NATI brass band is not only revolutionizing the New Orleans brass band style, but is modernizing it as well by incorporating Go-Go and Hip-Hop into the traditional New Orleans jazz style, as well as the Birthplace of FUNK itself, Cincinnati and Dayton, OH’s funk style and is becoming a major influence on local music.
202ND ARMY BAND/SINGLE BARREL BRASS

The 202nd Army Band out of Frankfort, KY has been an annual participant in the festival since 1996. The 202nd is an ensemble that features patriotic brass band music for all. Single Barrel Brass is composed of members of the 202nd Army Band that primarily play New Orleans style brass music.
ADVOCATE BRASS BAND
DANVILLE KY
Performing for audiences around the world is nothing new for the host band, the Advocate Brass Band. In addition to entertaining local audiences throughout the Commonwealth, they've performed in Europe, Trinidad, and Venezuela. Reminiscent of the turn-of the-century town bands, the band was founded by Dr George Foreman, former managing director of Centre College's Norton Centre for the Arts, with financial backing from the late Mary Schurz, former publisher, chairman, and editor emeritus of our local newspaper, The Advocate Messenger. Originally, the band was formed to play during a political rally sponsored by the paper. The band is currently under the direction of Maestro Lee Spoonamore. Only two of the original 17 members are alive and still playing in the band.
REX RICHARDSON

Renowned as champion of new, genre-busting music, Yamaha Performing Artist Rex Richardson was named the 2008 Brass Herald International Personality of the Year. With a reputation unique in the trumpet world for his combination of singular virtuosity, deep lyricism, and mastery of improvisation in classical as well as jazz idioms, he has been called “One of the finest virtuosos of our time” (Brass Herald, 2018) “a standout soloist with the power, range and flexibility to rival Freddie Hubbard and Woody Shaw,” (DownBeat, 2014) and “among the very best trumpet soloists in the world today.” (Journal of the International Trumpet Guild, 2011)
A veteran of the acclaimed ensembles Rhythm & Brass, the Joe Henderson Quintet and Sextet, the Chicago Jazz Ensemble, and the world-renowned Brass Band of Battle Creek, his hundreds of soloist engagements include appearances with the Phoenix Symphony and Thailand Philharmonic Orchestras, the U.S. Army Field Band and Tokyo Symphonic Winds, England's Fodens Brass Band, Spanish Brass, Boston Brass, and the U.S. Air Force's Airmen of Note Jazz Ensemble.
His latest of nine albums Freedom of Movement: 21st Century Trumpet Concertos was released to critical acclaim and named a top-ten finalist for 4barsrest.com’s 2018 Solo CD of the Year. The Journal of the ITG called it “A triumph of virtuosity and musicianship” (March 2019).
Richardson has taught at Virginia Commonwealth University since 2002, and served as International Tutor in Trumpet at England’s Royal Northern College of Music from 2012-2015.
BAND OF THE CALIFORNIA BATTALLION
LONG BEACH, CA
This famous, acclaimed reenactor group is an accurate portrayal of a battalion or brigade level band of the Union Army during the Civil War. A group such as this would be expected to provide music for all military occasions. The band has the appearance of a group that has been in the field for some time. The flashy parade garb has given way to standard infantry and cavalry uniforms. Due to casualties, replacements had to be garnered from other branches of the service. The bands kept the army together so top priority was given to keeping the musical ensembles intact. The Band of the California Battalion, a fourteen piece re-enacted Civil War Brass Band performs with authentic period instruments , music, chairs and uniforms. They will present "stirring martial music and poignant popular airs for your musical delectation.” Dr. Gary Thomas Scott, retired Dean of the School of Creative Arts and Applied Sciences at Long Beach City College, conducts the band. Dr. Scott provides colorful, educational and witty illustrative dialogue throughout the concert.
CIRCLE CITY SIDEWALK STOMPERS
INDIANAPOLIS, IN
The Circe City Sidewalk Stompers Clown Band has been performing fast-moving, choreographed routines to upbeat music since 1976. The musicians, including trumpets, trombones, saxophones, bass and snare drums, and sousaphone are dressed in colorful clown costumes and entertain the crowd with comic interaction and fancy footwork.
The 15-minute choreographed show, followed by musical strolling through the crowd, includes familiar tunes like Zoot Suit Riot, It Don't Mean a Thing if It Ain't Got That Swing, Pick up the Pieces, Gimme' Some Lovin', Birdland, Jump Jive an' Wail, Your Mama Don't Dance, and many more of your popular favorites.
Based in Indianapolis, IN, the Circle City Sidewalk Stompers routinely entertain crowds at Indiana Pacers basketball and Indianapolis Colts football games as well as at private parties, parades and the Indiana State Fair. As word of the twelve talented musicians and their high energy show spread, the group began appearing in fairs across the country such as the San Diego Fair, the New York State Fair, the Wisconsin State Fair, and the Alaska State Fair. The band has also performed in the Great American Brass Band Festival in Danville, KY for the past 20 years, as well as Carnival in Nice, France, the European version of Mardi Gras and theShanghai International Music Festival.
The group attributes its success to its members’ excellent musicianship and to their ability to adapt to any performance situation. Their professionalism and flexibility make them ideally suited for a wide variety of events. CROSSROADS BRASS BAND

Crossroads Brass Band of Central Indiana (CRBB) is a non-profit, amateur, performing arts ensemble that aspires to the highest musical standards and is dedicated to the growth of the brass band movement in Central Indiana. The band is styled after the British brass bands that were popular in Great Britain in the 18th century, but to this day remain an important part of that country’s musical culture.CRBB was chartered in 2012. Although amateur in status, the band features many experienced musicians from around central Indiana and is under the outstanding directorship of our artistic director, Dr. Jon Noworyta. Donald Bookout, who was also the founder and music director of the organization, has served as past vice-president and a board member of NABBA.
The group performs a variety of music including marches, hymns, show tunes, big band arrangements, composed or arranged in the British tradition.
Crossroads Brass Band strives to become an exemplary musical organization, study and perform brass band music of the highest quality, promote educational activities, and entertain the metropolitan Indianapolis area. The band competes in NABBA activities when the opportunities arise, representing Indianapolis and central Indiana.
HEARTLAND WINDS
ELIZABETHTOWN, KY
The Heartland Winds is a community band founded in 2007 by Chuck Campbell. Since its inception, the Heartland Winds has presented numerous concerts in the Elizabethtown community showcasing a wide variety of repertoire & local talent. Based in Elizabethtown, the band originally played 3 concerts each summer at Freeman Lake Park. Beginning in 2009 the band changed its performance format to provide a Christmas Concert in December followed by two additional performances, typically in the months of March and May

The Dublin Silver Band is a group of professional-level musicians who volunteer their time and talent because of three things they all have in common: a drive to chase perfection, a genuine affection for each other, and a passion for making connections with audiences on an emotional level. To make these connections, the band commits to performing far more than ordinary concerts, instead telling stories that engage the audience in the musical performance. It is this approach that has earned the band an international reputation.
The band was originally founded by Dr. Paul Droste and Dr. Patrick Herak in 2008 as the Ohio Brass Band, and became the Dublin Silver Band in 2010. Since then, the band has performed throughout the Midwest, as well as in Ireland and England and enjoyed international acclaim. The band competes in national and international events each year, most frequently in the US Open Brass Band Championship, where it has won the award for “Most Entertaining Band” on a record seven occasions! In 2015, DSB placed 1st overall at the US Open, which earned the band the opportunity to compete with the top bands in the world at the November 2016 Brass In Concert Championship in Gateshead, England (one of the most prestigious by-invitation-only events in the brass band world).
More recently, the band was the winner of the 2017 Dublin Festival of Brass Shield, the 2017 & 2018 Ohio Brass Arts Festival Cup, and the 2019 North American Championships (First Section). These competitions included other bands from Ohio and all over the United States.
Keeping in mind that many of the top-ranked bands in the world have been in existence for over 100 years, these Dublin Silver Band accomplishments are quite noteworthy for a band just over a decade old. It is also a credit to the support and generosity of the Dublin and Central Ohio communities, for which the band is very grateful.
SOUTHERN STARS SYMPHONIC BRASS
CROSSVILLE, TN
The Southern Stars Symphonic Brass is a 30 musician strong ensemble based on the British brass band format and instrumentation. They were organized in early 2008 by Dwight Wages who had recently retired to the Cumberland Plateau of Tennessee (Fairfield Glade) after a 38 year career with Procter and Gamble. He had previously been active as a musician with two other brass bands……the Cincinnati Brass Band and the Intrada Brass Band (Toronto) both of whom have performed at GABBF, and was keen on continuing his activity with this unique style of ensemble.
Musicians in the group hail from Knoxville, Chattanooga, Murfreesboro, Nashville, Cookeville, Crossville areas of Tennessee and also a few from Williamsburg, KY, and most drive 1 to 3.5 hours (each way) to come to rehearsals and concerts in Crossville, TN. Members include university instrumental music professors, secondary music educators, and others from non-musical careers who are also excellent musicians. The conductor is Dr. Steven Sudduth, director of bands at the University of the Cumberlands in Williamsburg, Ky.
The SSSB are a registered 501-c3 nonprofit and the musicians are compensated for rehearsals and concerts. Due to the driving times to come to rehearsals and concerts, the group prepares concerts with only two rehearsals, and concert programs are mostly all new music for the benefit of their audiences. Their motto is to provide “Premium Entertainment” concerts with a wide variety of music genres and styles included for audience interest. As part of their mission,they also provide financial support to the Cumberland County school system's instrumental music programs as well as to local United Fund agencies.
Since their inaugural concert in April 2008, the band has given over 60 concerts in their 14 years of existence. They perform a 3 concert series in Crossville as well as other concerts throughout the regional area. In recognition of their growing reputation, the Southern Stars have performed at GABBF 3 times including this year's event. Audience reaction to the SSSB at prior Danville appearances drew large audiences of 5,000 plus who rewarded the band with standing ovations. They have produced two CD’s, Encore! Making Tracks and Jazzing at the Playhouse, both of which are available for purchase in the Festival Marketplace tent at GABBF.
STORYVILLE STOMPERS BRASS BAND
NEW ORLEANS, LA
Started as a group of friends who had a love of traditional, New Orleans music, the Storyville Stompers have grown to become one of the preeminent brass bands in the nation, having played throughout the US, Europe, South America and Asia. The band continues to play New Orleans-music in the traditional style, a music considered the foundation for traditional Jazz and Dixieland.
It was once written that, "The Storyville Stompers are an integral part of the brass band scene with a big fat sound and plenty of spirit ... the group is one of a handful of ensembles carrying on the tradition with a repertoire of classic jazz tunes too rarely heard these days."
The band plays regularly at weddings, second lines and parades, conventions, festivals, concerts, airport greetings, receptions, parties, and any other function that warrants celebration. With numerous nominations, the Storyville Stompers were awarded "Best Traditional Brass Band" in 2010 & 2011 by Big Easy Music Awards.
The band is acoustic and able to play in almost any setting. From the stages of major festivals to the grand ballrooms of the finest hotels; from paddle wheel riverboats to the streets of the city, the Storyville Stompers have been heard, enjoyed, and danced to by thousands. Whether you desire a large stage band, a parade band, or a smaller intimate band, the Storyville Stompers can provide quality New Orleans entertainment to fit the occasion. In its 30 years, one New Orleans tradition that the Storyville Stompers helped to perpetuate is the colorful second-line parade when audiences dance behind the strolling brass band waiving handkerchiefs or twirling decorated umbrellas, becoming part of a festive entourage. The grand marshal, clad in crisp tuxedo, sash and matching umbrella, leads the band and everybody dances.
In addition, the traditional New Orleans Jazz Funeral is a part of the fabric and rich cultural traditions of New Orleans and the Storyville Stompers have continued this tradition as a means of celebrating the life of loved ones with a class and dignity.
Some of the band's performances over the past thirty years have included: New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival; the French Quarter Festival; the Macau International Jazz Festival in Macau, China; Kobe Urban Resort Jazz Festival in Kobe Japan; Carnival Ambrosiana in Milan, Italy; Guayaquil Jazz Festival in Guayaquil, Ecuador; First Lady Hillary Clinton's Congressional Luncheon in Washington, D.C.; the Sugar Bowl; the King's Float in world famous Bacchus and Orpheus Mardi Gras Parades; Louisiana Mardi Gras Ball in Washington D.C.; Satchmo Summer Fest in New Orleans, Louisiana; as a house band on "Live with Regis and Kelly"; hundreds of national conventions; and numerous other events worldwide.
WALNUT STREET RAMBLERS
LEXINGTON, KY
The Walnut Street Ramblers, founded in 2006, have played at many locations in Kentucky including Danville’s Great American Brass Band Festival, Ashland’s Paramount Theatre, Bardstown’s National Bourbon Day, Lexington’s Ashland Park July Fourth Celebration, the Kentucky Heritage Jazz Festival, and Shaker Village at Pleasant Hill. The Ramblers have twice toured Spain, performing in festivals and concerts on the Mediterranean’s Costa Brava (Barcelona), in Bilbao, Palma de Mallorca, Puente Pumar, and Santander. Several of their performances were recorded and broadcast on Spanish National Radio. While in Spain the Ramblers also performed at the famed jazz club El Corrillo in Salamanca. The Ramblers’ repertoire spans ragtime-era music including Scott Joplin; New Orleans traditional jazz by Jelly-Roll Morton and Louis Armstrong; and hot 1920s music by composers such as Bix Beiderbecke, Hoagy Carmichael, and Cole Porter. They especially enjoy performing this music for contemporary listeners, including those already familiar with New Orleans, Roaring Twenties, and Ragtime music as well as those who haven’t yet experienced the thrill of this great American music up close and live.
Ramblers’ members are widely experienced performers in concert, party, promotional, sports, cruise, cultural/educational, and even New Orleans-style funeral settings, playing for events ranging from intimate private dinners to large outdoor concerts for thousands.

SALVATION ARMY LEXINGTON CORPS BAND
LEXINGTON, KY
The Salvation Army has been a part of the Lexington community since the opening of the Lexington Corps in 1903. Music has always played a critical role in the ministry of The Salvation Army, but the Lexington Corps Band was not created until the 1980's. Today, the Lexington Corps Band is a diverse group of Salvation Army soldiers, officers, teachers, local high school/college students, and professional musicians who seek to further the message of God's grace through music. Under the direction of Music Coordinator Eddie George, the Lexington Corps Band provides all the music for the Sunday morning church services at The Salvation Army. In addition to the band, the Lexington Corps provides a weekly music and arts program that engages the community through instruction in brass ensembles, worship dance, and singing.
